Tuesday's Truth: Worrying Births Trouble for the Worrier!
The word "Worry" literally means to have a troubled state of mind. If you're worried about what you're wearing, eating or drinking...about what you have or don't have materially, then your personality will be all caught up in what you are worried about and therefore your personality will take on the attributes of your state of mind or simply put, you'll find yourself in trouble.
Trouble of feeling defeated, of being an outcast, not worthy, cheated, ignored and when we reach this state of trouble we question God, His supremacy...even His existence! We stop praying, we stop fasting, His Holy Word yields no comfort, we dispise those who have what we don't have, we compare how the world is flourishing and how Christians are struggling to keep pace.
In the current situation that is gripping us with worry, we tend to forget about all of the situations where God has shown Himself to be Strong and Mighty; where God made a way out of no way; when God said yes after man said no; when God provided, sustained and kept you before when the provisions that you thought you had came up short.
This same God is still on the Throne, still in control, still loves you, is still providing for you, is still answering prayers and still developing and delivering you from all of your troubles (worries).
Jesus speaks to our worrying by reminding us that we were created in His image and likeness...greater than the birds of the air or the grass of the fields, yet both are cared for by God, "Are you not much more valuable than they?"
Read for yourself what Jesus says to us about worrying:
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life ? “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." (Matthew 6:25-34)
